If you're in for the long term Just allocate a small chunk, maybe 5% of your portfolio in it. (Not financial advice). Sign up to a good exchange like Gemini and buy into both bit by bit. I personally have more bitcoin than Ethereum. About a ratio of 3:1. However you can 50:50.

Imo, i think it is fine to be have a small % (5-10) of your portfolio exposed to some crypto as 1) a store of value, 2) a hedge against fiat currency. just know that it functions more like a commodity than a stock/business. it can crash at anytime or continue moving up, nobody knows.
bitcoin's resilience is trialed and tested since the 2017 crypto crash. when in doubt, always go with the king. i personally only hold btc long term and day/swing trade the top alt coins. note that this is also a relatively small portion of my whole investment portfolio.
