Course I’m looking at is geography. Parents are willing to pay but I’m afraid of the burden I’ll put on them + wondering if it’s more beneficial in the Long run if I stay in sg (want to possibly work overseas but not optimistic about career prospects esp w covid)

Hi anon! Like you, I had considered studying overseas previously. Some factors that led me to a decision were quality of education, career prospects and global exposure.
Personally, I think that Singaporean universities do not fall behind other universities overseas in quality of education and university ranking. Tuition fees in Singapore are also subsidized by MOE, so you get similar quality of education at a fraction of the cost of studying abroad. So you have to find out whether your career prospects are better with a local or overseas degree.
I think the most distinguishing factor is the global exposure that comes with studying abroad, which is priceless, as what Boon Tat has mentioned in his post. However, opportunities to study/ work abroad can also come in the form of university exchanges and overseas internships.
Do spend some time discussing this with the people around you and weigh the pros and cons of both options. Hope that my post helps in any way!
