Is it rude to ask people about their salary?

I am going to be a fresh grad in 1 month, hence, now is the period of job hunting. I found myself to be very open with sharing about the pay that companies are offering me. However, I know that some people are uncomfortable with that topic. For me, I feel weird having to shun away from this topic as I would want to have honest discussions about my life with my friends.
