I would plan to be self sustainable, and treat my kids' allowance to me as a bonus contribution and not a 'must-have'.

It may be possible for them to financially cover all our retiring expenses... but I don't think it's a good idea to solely rely on them, as they may have their own commitments too. I wouldn't want my kids to be burdened to support me π
