Is it possible to get CI and disability insurance as a stand-alone?

I currently already have health insurance but not being paid by me. I am looking to get a CI/Disability myself without riding on the health insurance. What are the stand-alone CI/Disability plans, if any? Thanks!

It is possible! There are a lot of options available in the market as many of them have shared - so where to start?

Personally, I took the easy way by looking at MoneyOwl's promotional bundles for Protection.

The protection bundle comprises of:

  • Death / Total Permanent Disability

  • Early Critical Illness

  • Critical Illness

  • Occupational Disability

  • Hospitalisation

With this, you may discuss your needs further with your dedicated advisor for them to access your situation comprehensively. Then, adjust and customise the bundle according to your needs (have placed your needs in bold above).

Here's an example from their product page:

p.s.: You can customise the coverage and coverage amount according to your preference which is what I am planning to do - as occ. disability won't benefit me and I alr have hospitalisation coverage.

There are a couple of standalong CI coverage out in the market. I dont give product or give advise on how much coverage is needed as i believe coverage has a purpose. Figure without meaning has no meaning.
Feel free to pm me if u are looking for holistic solution.

Hi Anon,

There are several critical illness standalone plans.

I'd list some articles that we've done at TheAstuteParent to help you. Will also add unique plan strengths with a short comment

AIA Power Critical Cover (Unique pre-early benefit)

https://www.theastuteparent.com/2019/11/aia-pow...

AXA Super Criticare (Coverage for re-diagnosed cancers, recurrent heart attacks, and stroke at any stage)

https://www.theastuteparent.com/2019/12/axa-sup...

Singlife Critical illness (Flexible and customizable with early critical, multiple critical illness and step-up options)

https://www.theastuteparent.com/2019/04/singlif...

TM Multicare plan vs AVIVA Mymultipay (Multiple coverage plans with 300% payout in event of Critical illness)

https://www.theastuteparent.com/2019/08/multica...

A general guideline for planning for critical illness coverage should be 5-10x of your annual income and early critical illness to be 1-2x of annual income. Why?

Because when critical illness hits, there can be possible loss of income.

A starting point is to know what current coverage you have and take check on any current or future liabilities.

If you're unsure on how to plan, drop me an email at [email protected] or consult any qualified independent adviser for planning ideas.
