Is an insurance covering female dreaded illnesses necessary if I already have a CI plan?

This female dreaded illnesses insurance apparently pays on top of any other insurance I have.

Hi anon,

I would say that there is actually a fair bit of overlap between a female illness policy compared to a traditional CI plan.

However, there are some things which set a female illness plan apart. For example, some of these may not be claimable from a typical CI plan, but may be claimable from a female illness poicy.

  • Urinary Incontinence requiring Surgical Repair

  • Uterine Prolapse

  • Pelvic Relaxation requiring Surgical Repair

  • Thyroid disorders causing Thyroid Storm

  • Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome

There are also payouts for medical procedures, reconstructive surgery, etc, which a typical CI plan will not pay for. The exact coverage depends on the plan you buy as a few insurers have such plans.

If budget permits, you can consider one, but I don't personally think it's a must have.

Lastly, take note that it will be a term plan which is payable every year.

Treat it as a supplement. It is not a need. It is better to simply use the extra premiums to boost your main coverage - ECI, Death, TPD and CI.

If you have enough coverage for the above, you can consider adding them as a supplementary benefit.

It complements existing coverage for females due to benefits apart from the sum assured - this includes things like biennial check-ups, reconstruction of the breast due to mastectomy. The aforementioned benefits are not covered by event triggers nor hospitalization plans.

Hi Anon,

Personally, I haven't gotten a female CI add on because it's not within my budget at the moment. But I do plan to get one perhaps in the next couple of years.

Here's a list for the common types of cancer in Singapore.

And let me refer you to this question thread for more opinions.

Hope this helps!

Hey there!

Its not compulsory but its a good-to-have. I do have female clients who have had health scares in their early 40s and you never know. Of course, if you have the budget for it, you can either go for a specific female illness plan or a term plan to top up whatever existing coverage you have.
