IBKR Referral Link for Small Investors: What USD 1 per USD 300 Means

The "up to USD 1,000 in IBKR stock" headline needs USD 300,000 of net deposits. For most of us the real number is much smaller, but it's still free stock for money you'd invest anyway.

IBKR referral link (no code exists, the link is the referral): https://ibkr.com/referral/soonweichris463

The rule
You get USD 1 of Interactive Brokers (Nasdaq: IBKR) Class A shares for every USD 300 of net deposits during your first year, capped at USD 1,000.

What that looks like at normal amounts

  • USD 300 → USD 1
  • USD 3,000 → USD 10
  • USD 6,000 (say USD 500 a month for a year) → USD 20
  • USD 30,000 → USD 100

Deposits add up over the year, so a monthly DCA counts. Transferred-in shares count at market value too.

Conditions I'd keep in mind

  1. Apply through the link. If you open an IBKR account any other way first, you're an existing client and it doesn't apply.
  2. Individual or joint accounts only. Approval is up to IBKR.
  3. Withdrawals in the first year reduce the reward in proportion.
  4. The shares can't be sold for one year after they're awarded. You still get dividends and voting rights meanwhile.
  5. Close the account before then and unvested shares are forfeited.

Not eligible
Previous IBKR account holders; residents of Japan, Denmark, Spain, Portugal, Poland, mainland China or Israel; tax-deferred, advisor, hedge fund and institutional accounts; family members of, or people living at the same address as, the link owner.

Rate and exclusions match IBKR's Refer a Friend terms as summarised by DLCuration here: https://dlcuration.com/ibkr-referral-code.html

Small, but it's a few free shares for a DCA plan. Share value moves with the IBKR price, and this isn't financial advice.
