Some children are motivated to study either due to their mindset or circumstances.

Seems that now other children or teenagers can listen to me in terms of their studies. But own teen cannot listen to me. It pains me for him to play computer games before or after his homework. Everytime need to push him to study and he loses his temper.

Deep inside I feel frustrating. There are other tasks I need to complete especially holding onto jobs.

I think its good to show what you can gain by being hardworking. Maybe chart out career paths they can get excited about and the steps to get there.

Instead of talking down to him and nagging him to study, why not have a sit down and discuss what motivates him?

In the first place, are his grades very far off from what he wants it to be? If not, no harm in letting him enjoy his passion while his grades are good.

Maybe you can help him to be more disciplined by using video games to motivate him - use it as a reward.

So he can play video games but in proportion to him getting homework/studies done.
