How to get about exclusion criteria for the Hospitalization Integrated Shield Plan?

Hi everyone! I am 23/M who had previous slip disc at L5S1 of the spine and undergone surgery in early 2017, was subsequently discharged at mid 2017. I have just applied for an integrated shield plan and the underwriter has gotten back with an exclusion of the entire lumbar spine (injuries to the nerve, spinal cord, joint and ligament).

Should I accept it? or is there a way to appeal for removal of this exclusion criteria?

And would different companies have different decision on the exclusions?

Hi I have cyst removal and I was excluded for the ovary and cyst related illness. Understand from my physician my cyst is common and in my last follow up show that no more cysts are found. my agent tried appeal but keep telling me the underwriter not getting back and until now 6 months has passed with no news from the underwriter. Can I check usually how long will I get my appeal result?

HI Anon,

I do think that it will be challenging as based on the nature of that exclusion, I do believe most insurers will exclude. However that being said, as a Singaporean you are included in Medishield Life, which is our national healthcare plan that covers all conditions, even pre-existing ones. So if you are going to see a doctor or be hospitalised due to your back, you would be limited to Government Restructed Hospitals only.

However I would suggest getting an Integrated Shield Plan to provide you coverage in the events you are hospitalised for other reasons.
