How much pocket money did you get from your parents, until what age ?

I'm a mid-90s kid and I used to receive pocket money from my parents. In primary school it was $1.50 / day, then $10 / day in sec school. I also worked part time then, so I could afford to hang out with friends.

Stopped receiving pocket money sometime in Uni, but my education fees were paid by my dad.

I count myself relatively lucky. What about you guys? :)

Also how much pocket money will you give to your kids in the future?

$1.50 per day in P5 & P6.
$5 per day in sec sch and jc.
Allowance stops there.
Army and Uni days, didn't have ATM card, and stretched angbao money to last whole year. Helps that I sold my weekends to do duties in NS for cash.
Uni fees was settled by bank loan, which I paid off by myself after I start working.

Learning how to manage pocket money is a first step to taking care of oneself.. I had like $5 a day, enough to eat and drink plus a snack for one day. Save that amount, and eat less on some days, you have some savings and a little hungry.

Frankly, I don't recall how much I used to receive pocket money from my parents back then in primary or secondary school. But I do somehow remember how my usual recess lunch would add up to $2 the most each day. As for back in polytechnic days, I would receive a monthly allowance of $200, calculating to $7 a whole day out.

Coming from a big family with many siblings, I am thankful to receive allowances till my freshman year of university similar to my polytechnic days but up till now, I've managed through with the bursaries I've received alongside occasional part-times. However, my parents still pay for my school fees which I'm forever gratefully in debt to them.

I would also like to think about how allowances should be given based on inflation in the future. As well as envisioning myself to provide my children to my best capabilities without spoiling them as my parents did to me.

I did not know that im quite fortunate, even when im from a single parent family. im from mid-80s, getting $2 daily for primary school and $10 daily for secondary. $50 per week to self manage by financials (food and entertainment only lol) for tertiary (first 2 years). After which then using my own savings from internship and part-time works during holidays for my uni expenses.
now that im a parent too, i will probably do the same for my kid, or perhaps starts to give weekly allowance sooner so that they will learn how to manage their budget earlier.

Gen Z here!
I can’t exactly remember how much I got for primary school but I think it’s about $1. S...
