Depends on how you classify "emergencies". The general idea is that this includes you getting fired but it should also include other things like if you're in an accident and can no longer work. Think about the lenght of time you will be unable to earn an income (e.g. is it 6 months? 1 year?) AND how does that impact on your dependendants (if any)?
At the end of the day, you need to save a comfortable amount to ensure that during these difficult times, money is one less issue that you are going to worry about.

I'm a father of two n can activate $30k as emergency funds pretty easily. In an ideal world, this figure would be $50k though haha

IMHO, besides emergency funds, remember to cover your bases with at least getting the basic insurance before starting your investing journey ...
