Templeton Global Total Return Fund employs a global macro, unconstrained approach to fixed income investing, which often can involve contrarian approaches compared to peers and the broader market. The team is still internationally recognized as the most rigorous and forward-looking macro fixed income investors.

The strategy today is meant to act as a hedge against broader global risks. This includes having exposure to safe-haven assets and not actively participating in gains in the fixed income markets, even as markets have broadly recovered from this year’s March lows. That said, we still believe that the Fund can play a role in every investor’s portfolio. While there is a recovery in the financial markets, there might just be risks lurking beneath, and we do not know when they will surface. Templeton Global Total Return Fund is positioned to help hedge against those risks. Think of it as a fire extinguisher – you never know when you’ll need it, until you do!
