There's no time period that's set in stone. When you apply for a credit card, they'll want to see your income/CPF statements. Most will ask for the past 12 months of income history. However, just call them up if you've only been working for 1 month, and explain the situation. A friend who had only been working for a couple of months had her card approved 2 months into her first job.

Meeting the minimum income threshold (which, for most cards, is $30,000/year) is more important than the period of time you've been working. Remember that because the credit card market is so competitive, banks will go the distance to get you to hold their cards. It's less an exclusive club that you have to fight for, and more of an open party where the hosts really want you to join :)

Hi Anon,

If this is your first credit card and you have no debt, I think a good time is about 3 months. If you've previously had a student credit card and thus a good credit score, I think you can try with just 2 months!

PS these are just my thoughts and not backed by any data.
