How importance is getting home insurance when purchasing a flat? How much do they usually add up to and how does home insurance for BTO and resale flats differ?

I lived in a HDB last time and our house got burglar broke into. The police never caught him, and he stole all my mother’s jewellery and my piggy bank. So don’t think Singapore is very safe, must buy home insurance.
