There is an actualy strategy. For SQ flights, Milelion website did a very good review on the differenet business and first class seats
To Paraphrase what Aaron, founder of Milelion said, not all business class seats are made equally.
Read his guide, it is one of the best out there for SQ:

For SQ it's quite simple. Only their A380s have suites. If your seat map shows 6 seats, it's the 2017 suites, else, expect the 2007 suites (which are still very good)
Everything else will be first class, the only question is which type. So that will depend on the plane you are flying.
On Emirates, the new first class is only available on their 777s, so if you are not flying that, but booked in F, it will probably be their older first class.
Use Seatguru if you would like to confirm. Cross reference your seat map when you book with the seat maps on seatguru to know which configuration of aircraft you are flying.
