How do I cancel and get a refund for my hotel and flight bookings if it was booked under Booking.com because of the COVID-19 virus?

My trip is completely cancelled due to Covid-19 and I'm wondering if I can get any refunds?

I recently booked a hotel in JB under booking.com and had to cancel due to the Malaysian lockdown. The cancellation fee is entirely up to the service provider's discretion. I managed to get a full refund by messaging the customer support service of booking.com and explaining to them the situation. They contacted the hotel and managed to get them to refund my payment. I'm quite confident most service providers will be understanding of the current virus situation. Better still if you have bought insurance for your travels.
