I have a friend in his early thirties who has been working part-time intermittently and is currently unemployed while pursuing a part-time degree. His internship is scheduled to start around September, and his final exam will be in November 2025.
Given that his girlfriend has been working full-time for nearly four years, can they still apply for BTO together? What would be the best course of action for him to improve his situation, considering that applying for BTO requires income assessment over the past 12 months? Should he look for part-time work in the meantime or aim for a temporary full-time job?

Hi I know a few couples that are students that have yet to graduate during BTO application. They have received queue number and selected their units. Your friend can apply for deferred income assessment. The students I know will graduate 1.5 years after unit selection, and collect keys in 1 year later. This will mean they would have worked for 1 year before deferred income assessment. think a few months before key collection, HDB will assses the couple's income by then. Ask your friend to join some of the BTO project telegram channels to share his situation and post his question about deferred income assessment and staggered downpayment. Those who are in the same situations will be helpful to share their experiences.
