Hi Seedly Community, at what point should couples start talking about money: before ROM, after, or when?

Couples should start talking about money before ROM, ideally once marriage is being considered. Discuss spending habits, debts, savings, insurance, housing plans, and how expenses will be split. Waiting until after ROM—especially in Singapore where big financial commitments happen early—can lead to conflict. Early, honest conversations prevent misunderstandings and build long-term financial alignment.

Money matters got to start as soon as possible .... while i was with my gal friend , most of the time i was broke one .... low income environment plays a part also ...

things starts to get worse when we took a HDB , i was still jobless and could not afford meals , i am a smoker .

it came when i was hospitalized , she left me for someone else while complaining that i was broke and there were a lot of stuffs we could not do while shopping .

we were together for about 10 years , i knew her for about 20 years .

i am single ever since then . it kinda hurts ...

now i can only work my ass off to make sure i am financially stable . day in day out , it was always about the money .

So now , i can only suggest talking about money before ROM . make sure u have enough money to get thru the months , u can forget about wedding dinner but a trip elsewhere would be good to mark the event .

carefully plan your expenses but don't be stingy larz .... hope everything goes well for couples .

oh ya , did i mentioned , i could not even afford wedding rings when we were about to ROM . Things blew up , she left me .

Low income and high expense country , i can only slogged my ass off only ....

Lesson learnt : Don't ever run out of money , everyone will leave u ... !

U will be surprised .... .... !
