It is crucial that candidates ensure their resumes are able to answer exactly what a prospective employer is looking for, and communicate a strong professional branding to make themselves stand out. Do not underestimate how effective a clear resume can be. Here are a few resume tips:

· Prioritise key skills and competencies that are directly relevant to the specific job and employer. Highlight these on the first page of your resume. Exclude skills and competencies that are not relevant or outdated.

· Prepare a summary that gives a brief overview of your background, skills and experience. Your summary should ideally communicate your Unique Selling Points and key strengths – both contributing towards your professional branding. For instance, Regional Operations and Marketing professional with global brands for over a decade, driving go-to-market sales and successfully implemented business process design and workflow optimisation.

· Include major career achievements or accomplishments from your previous jobs and explain how you can provide a similar impact to your future employer. Major achievements could include any quantifiable effort on your part to improve the productivity, quality or efficiency of work, generate revenue, provide cost savings for the company, streamlined work processes and many more.

· If you are doing a career switch to a new job role or sector, do consider using a functional resume format which prioritises your relevant transferable skills instead of your work experience. A functional resume format also helps jobseekers re-entering the workforce as well as those have been working in the same company for a long time.

· It is good to keep your resume as short as possible (preferably 2 pages) to make it more readable. Employers and hiring managers typically take about 10 seconds to scan through a resume to find the ones that fit and may not read the resume in its entirety.
