Hi everyone! Im a beginner in my investment journey and I want to invest $1000/month. Could someone recommend a strategy? I currently use roboadvisors but I am thinking of expanding beyond that.

I need specific options and probably a breakdown of my portfolio. Would be nice to have suggestions that span over 6 months.

Besides all the advice already given, as a beginner, you have to think can you stomach the drop of the value of investment when it happens? Do you know what to do next.

Have a strategy otherwise you might lose sleep and it is not worth it.

Hi Natalie,

Good job for having already started investing with Robos and proactively seeking to expand your investing circle!

Personally, I'd recommend you to try DIY investing. To get started, you'll need to pick 1) what to invest in, and 2) which broker to invest with.

1) As Frankie suggested, diversified and low cost index ETFs are the way to go for long term investments. You can pick an all world ETF or S&P 500 ETF for this. I personally use the latter and I'd recommend either VOO or CSPX for this!

2) When it comes to brokers, it's all about fees and market access. The cheapest broker around currently is TDA for US markets and IBKR for everything else, though Tiger and Moomoo aren't bad options either. IBKR has the advantage of accessing many different markets including US, UK, EU, HK, and more. Personally, I've been using Tiger but just recently switched to IBKR.

My recommendation would be to invest in CSPX using IBKR (CSPX is not available on all the other brokers I mentioned) because of its advantageous tax benefits as an Ireland domiciled ETF.

I assumed that you're investing for the long term, but I noticed you're looking for options that span over 6 months - if you're looking to invest only for 6 months and want to withdraw the money after that, I'd suggest you to consider safer options like cash management accounts like Syfe Cash+ or insurance savings plans like Dash PET.

Hope this helps!
