The earlier the better! Period. Important questions relating to your material wellbeing like these should be considered as early on as you can;
1) what is my retirement lifesyle
2) when I want to retire
3) what will be my biggest purchases in life, and how do I get there?
4) do I want to get married/grow old alone
5) do I want kids, how many and what kind of life will I create for them
6) what is my career and how do I want to live out my career
Thats because they affect each other and hence should be pondered concurrently. For example, you choice on retirement lifestyle is dependenant and depends on whether you have kids or not. Your choice on buying or renting (for life) will also affect your career for example (whether you want to work in SG or move about overseas).
Now it may be overwhelming if you take it all head on in one sitting, so go slow and just juggle the questions lightly. Then choose to go deep in one question for a set duration before moving on To the next. Whats key is to not make hasty decisions or conclusions on these things.
