Has any working adult here went back to study at a Polytechnic as a mature student? Does one still need an O-level cert with work experience?

Can anyone mature students who went back to polytechnic to study share the process? Does one really need an O-level cert, what if I don"t have a n O-level cert? Can I still go in with working experience? Every job nowadays need at least diploma even for sales.
