I'm about to enlist for NS next month. I'm considering getting a credit card to start working up my credit score so it'll be easier to get credit cards with even better perks when I do start getting a full-time job and become eligible for those.

But does it make sense to get a credit card during my 2 years?
Would banks even approve of me getting one since NS allowance isn't technically considered a "salary"?
If so, what cards would you recommend? (I have good spending and budgeting habits and I know I will be able to pay the bills in full on time)

Hi Jovan, just curious, if u are a NsF now, why would you want to be so eager to start working up your credit score? Are you planning to get a loan in the short term?

If not, your score will just be NA meaning u have limited info. This is no issue at all.

On the other hand, if you start using a card, if you don't track it well, you end up making late payments and damaging your credit score π

I suggest you stick with debit card promos like grabpay to maximise the reward points. Even if you get a credit card now, the options are limited and the rewards won't be impressive.
