Really depends on the type of business you are looking at. If you need more instock before you sell, definitely profit is going to come later. If you need more capital to do R&D or hiring, it's the same too.

Fast profit business is always a trade of your skills in exchange for monetary benefits.

Project out expected earnings, and compare with actual in the first few months. make adjustments if needed

Depends on the type of biz, whether you need large initial capital investment or not... my friend do...
