Many say that you should be growing and expanding your skill set in your job, but I’m just wondering how many ppl are actually learning something new in their jobs? My question does not include skills/qualifications that you are pursuing in your free time that isn’t related to your work.

Yes! You should be growing and expanding your skill set in your job. There are a number of things that you can learn at a new job. It will vary greatly from the kind of role that you are at as well ( business / technical). Some examples from my personal experience:
Soft Skills:
Hard Skills:
Most of the soft skills I learnt was from experience and by observing other people in the company.
Hard Skills are relatively easier to learn since there is a right and wrong most of the time.
A lot of people ‘learn’ a lot of things at the job but because it becomes second nature it may not come across as a learning after a few weeks/ months. Hence, it is important to reflect back and intentionally observe how you have grown over the last few months at a job. If you can’t find an answer to that, then maybe it’s time to change.

One of the skills that became prominent to me after joining work, was to gauge the man effort needed for every single task. Which I feel is quite important and gained only when you start work and varies for different fields.
skill sets would be dependant on the work, there is bound to be something that can be learnt. Futhermore, there are colleagues that holds different task in the company, some would be nice and willing to share when I show interest. However, learning the skillset would also increase workload therefore learning still starts from self.
