Hi anon,

There are plenty of plans available, but we'll need to know what you are concerned about covering first.

You'll want to look at hospitalization and critical illness coverage at a minimum.

Hospitalization plans cover the gaps that your company's own hospitalization coverage don't. As an employee in Singapore, you may have some company provided hospitalization, however this may be insufficient in terms of the claim limit, if you are treated at a private hospital, for example. A hospitalization plan will help to defray such costs. Hospitalization plans are meant to pay the hospital's bills.

Critical illness coverage provides money to pay your bills. If you are unable to work due to a serious illness, you'll need money to ensure that your family here are able to continue to meet their expenses such as housing, food, utilities, etc. This is basically income protection.

If your family here are dependent on your income (for example, non-working spouse and school going kids), then I will also recommend that you look at death/TPD coverage. This provides a lump sum of money in the event of your demise or permanent inability to work so the surviving family members will be able to deal with financial impact.

Now, there are rules of thumb that dictate how much coverage you will need, but those are ultimately guidelines and depend on many factors as well such as your income, expenditure, etc, so I have not elaborated on that. Have a discussion with an independent financial advisor so that you may be able to get advice that suits your situation and needs while having access to a wide suite of products.

Hi there,

Good morning! Yes there is. Currently the most basic level would be to purchase into health insurance, to protect yourself from any medical expenses due to inpatient treatments. You currently qualify to enroll in, and your family can enroll in after they get their valid passes to stay in Singapore.

Beyond that, if you are looking for more holistic coverage for your family, a discussion would first be needed to ascertain what are the objectives of your insurance needs, and what are the best solutions to meet them.

If you intend to stay in Singapore long-term, it is good to establish a good foundation with your insurance planning. I can explain more offline, as this is considered a sensitive topic. Do reach out with a contact request so that i can explain further in detail. I hope i was able to address your queries!
