Dividend income is not the only way to achieve passive income.

Also, continuing to work and earn income even in retirement shouldn't be looked down on as it's a good way to keep yourself sharp and relevant.

I rather see the over reliance on dividends as being exposed by covid 19. Fire doesn't have to rely on dividend income at all. It just one way to have a stream of passive income. We can consider active income in meaningful work too. I see covid 19 expanding the scope of fire movement.
