I like to think of phone sales breaking down into a few main categories-
1) repeat existing samsung users looking to upgrade- probably from samsung s6/7/8
2) unsatisfied users of other mobile brands
3) users of other brands tempted by samsung's offerings
In 2018-2019, android phone market is already facing extremely stiff competition with brands like oppo, xiaomi with pocophone f1, huawei flagships proving to offer more value at comparable specs with samsung. Cameras are no longer a distinguishing factor.
Despite raving reviews on samsung's s8 when it was released, i have a friend who told me recently his s8 feels significantly slower after less than 2 years and is tempted to switch phones already. I have a feeling samsung will be losing a good bulk of its repeat existing customers given strong competition. at lower price points and similar offerings, less users of other brands will in fact be tempted into samsung's s10- unless it can offer something groundbreaking which is highly doubtful.
Galaxy fold's pricing is simply too expensive for the masses. Though i expect samsung to hinge on success of s10 to draw more revs rather than galaxy fold, it is highly doubtful to me that samsung can pull off good sales as it did for s8 given points 1 and 3's outlook is unsatisfactory.
