To me it is essentially the same. Solely depends on the type of work and industry that you are in. Some types of jobs have very good work-life balance but not very rewarding.
Others such as entrepreneurs, lawyers, bankers or doctors may require you spend more time in the work if you are in a progressive environment. To me, people who are in this bracket got to practice work-life harmony as their work will be demanding for a long term.

Work-life balance is 1 aspect that has to be managed delicately, being balanced does not mean productivity to the higher ups and immediate superiors.
On the contrary, it may be seen as doing just enough, which will in turn affect the year-end grading outcomes and reduced monetary rewards.
It will be more beneficial to have good work colleagues, that strive to make the work better without much penalty to work-life balance.
