Just a little example:
I analyzed all SGD denominated Unit Trusts with 'global equity' exposure on DBS.sg website as to their annualized 3 year performance, here the results versus a cheap U.S. global stock indexing ETF (VT) over the same period:
Vanguard Total World Stock ETF (VT) 1.74% Fidelity Global Dividend A-MG-SGD 1.71% AB SICAV I Low Volatility Eq AD SGDH Inc 1.45% AB SICAV I Low Volatility Eq A SGD H Acc 1.45% STEWART INVESTORS WORLDWIDE LEADERS SUST. FUND A ACC 1.06% Investec GSF Glbl Str Eq A SGD Acc 0.97% NIKKO AM GLOBAL DIVIDEND EQ SGD HDG ACC 0.22% Deutsche Invest I Top Dividend SGD LC 0.04% Deutsche Invest I Top Dividend SGD LCH P 0.00% NIKKO AM GLOBAL DIVIDEND EQ SGD HDG DIS -0.22% BGF Global Equity Income A5G SGD H -0.33% BGF Global Equity Income A6 SGD H -0.40% TEMPLETON GLOBAL A ACC SGD -1.18% TEMPLETON GLOBAL EQUITY INC A MDIS SGD -1.34% It is not surprising that the cheap ETF beats all these mutual funds
given their very high annual fees.βββ

I never own unit trust because of the high fees. I believe there are better alternative ways to invest my money - which is simply to invest in ETFs. I did perform some simple calculations on my returns many years ago, and I concluded that the returns just doesnt make sense for me. For eg, at the start I am already losing 2% of my money. This money is quite a huge sum for me to pay. Nonetheless, I still believe there are people out there who believe in unit trust, and would prefer someone like a professional financial advisor to invest for them.
