Any advice on how to get a credit card (mainly for the sign up rewards) if you are a freelancer / unemployed and do not contribute to CPF? I know that some banks require some form of FD or bank deposits as a form of security, is there any other workaround?

If you are a freelancer or unemployed without CPF contributions, getting a credit card might be challenging due to the lack of a fixed income or employment status. Some banks may require a fixed deposit or bank deposits as security for issuing a credit card in such cases.
β
One possible workaround could be to consider applying for a secured credit card. With a secured credit card, you would need to provide a security deposit to the bank (usually around $10k), which acts as collateral for your credit limit. This can be a way to establish credit history and access credit card benefits, including sign-up rewards, even without a regular income or CPF contributions.
β
Another option could be to explore credit cards specifically designed for freelancers or individuals without traditional employment. These cards may have different eligibility criteria that consider factors other than just employment status or CPF contributions.
β
Still, it is possible to apply for a credit card even when unemployed, as long as you have access to some form of income. However, certain banks may have specific requirements for individuals without a job, such as needing to apply in person rather than online. You can take a look at this list of good cashback credit cards that might work for you. However, be warned that with each application for credit card (successful or not) will harm your credit score.
