Couple lives together but not married, and one earns 1-2k more than the other. How should rent/utilities be split?

Hypothetical scenario, lets say the couple has been dating for two years and are in their mid - late twenties. Should it be split by percentage or pay equally since they are not married yet?

I believe it should be by percentage. If it is split equally, one might struggle more than the other financially.

Regardless whether single or married, both parties should pay equally. Both parties are responsible for each other and to the family.
