Career switch to ICT

How can I make the switch to a career in ICT (more specifically in cybersecurity)? I do not come from a ICT background and most of the courses or PCP programmes require the applicant to either hold ICT qualification (diploma or degree) or has some years of experience in the industry.

How can a newbie like me enter the industry? My qualifications are in communications/marketing.

There are various roles you can play in ICT; you may not choose to do the hardcore technical job, which needs foundation knowledge and experience. You may start with a job role that can utilise some of your past working experience in communications/marketing, e.g., there is marketing role in ICT. Also Cybersecurity operation is common in every organisation. Some of job roles don't need deep technical skills; most important is to have a positive learning attitude and open mindset. I'm sure employer will provide necessary job hand-holding to help you go through the initial work challenges.

Are you any good at coding? Have you tried self learning anything on cyber security? If no, I suggest you do. Cyber security is not something one can just learn with a snap of your fingers. If it's so easy, the IT sector wouldn't be paying top dollar for the best candidates alr. They will have too much talent there and the pay will significantly drop.

My suggestion would be to take time and pick up coding and trying courses like the harvard's free coding course. Google "harvard free coding course" and see if you're any good at it.

Just my 2cents worth. You do you.
