Can You Claim Both Life Insurance and Personal Accident Insurance?

Many Singaporeans assume life insurance and personal accident insurance overlap, but in some cases, both policies can actually pay out for the same incident.

Life insurance and personal accident (PA) insurance serve different financial protection purposes, even though both may provide payouts after serious events. Life insurance mainly covers death, terminal illness, and total permanent disability (TPD), while PA insurance focuses specifically on accidental injuries, disability, and accident-related death.

Because these are separate insurance contracts, an accidental event such as a road accident may potentially trigger claims under both policies if all policy conditions are met.

However, claim approval still depends heavily on policy wording, exclusions, and insurer definitions. Certain hazardous activities or non-accidental causes may limit or exclude PA coverage entirely.
