Can the maybank platinum debit card be used globally? If so, would it be advisable to?
In terms of currency difference... would you say it is a good idea to use this card overseas?.

There are usually admin and other fees incurred when using the card. Also the rate of the currency conversion is determined by the bank or card issuer.

If you intend to use a card for overseas use, there are offerings like Youtrip, TransferWise, Revolut etc that offer a debit card with better exchange rates.
