Buy REITs invidually or buy REIT ETFs?

Was considering between buying the monthly recurring NikkoAM Asia Ex Japan REIT or just buying Parkway Healthcare or Capitaland invidually. Would like to start with $100 a month first as im a new investor. I feel like if i buy the REIT ETF i will be able to invest in many REITs but would that mean that only a few dollars would go to each REIT so that means less growth and returns? While if i buy invidually it would ensure that i have more money in each? Would love to hear any advice or oponions!

If you are investing $100 a month, I would definitely suggest going with an ETF. Here are the reasns why:

ā€‹

1) given the minimum lot size in singapore is 100, you will not be able to diversify sufficiently if you buy individual reits. an ETF would instantly give you diversification amongst different reits and different type of reits

ā€‹

2) Since you are a new investor, an ETF can help reduce the risk of selecting a wrong REIT. overtime as you gain more experience, you can start investing in individual REITs.

ā€‹

Lastly, I would like to add that buying an ETF would not mean less growth and returns. While it is true that you may have few dollars in each REIT, some REITs will outperform the index while some will underperform. Thus, you will enjoy the average return of the index. If you were to select and individual REIT, you may have the potential of earning higher returns but there is also the potential of choosing a poor performing reit. Thus, it all comes down to how confident you are in selecting the right REIT.

Hope this helps!

If your plan is to start with $100, then it would be good to consider ETFs or Syfe REIT+. Both could provide better diversification.

Sure, with the ETF your monies are somehow averaged or marketcapitalized into the index REITs. Which...
