Been suffering from depression after I lost my job due to COVID-19. My family has been encouraging me to go for counselling but I just can't bring myself to. How can I get better without counselling?

I want to get better too but just don't feel like going for counselling. Isn't there any way I can try to figure this out myself. I don't want to get judged for it and I know that there will be a track record of depression once I see a counsellor.

Hi Anon, I can't imagine what you are going through right now. It must be very challenging battling the sorrows and occasional feeling of lost and while you thought you are getting better another wave of emotions come hitting. Don't worry you are not the only one or alone. It is good that you are talking to your family, continue talking to them when you can. At personal level you can try exercising start slow eg. 20mins once per week as it helps to produce some good hormones or you can start writing three things that you are appreciative or happy about every day in a book or journal, try to commit to these activity for 2-3 weeks. You can also set 1 to 2 goals per day to get your day started can be as simple as "getting breakfast at YK Toast" or "read 1 article in Seedly" slowly you can add more eg "sending out 2 job application today", "designing 2 other format of CV" . Alternatively you can call 24hours hotlines where you can be anonymous and can talk about anything thats bothering you, its better to let it out sometimes. Take care my friend, you can do this.
