I have a friend who gave her children credit cards at 14. but she only gave them these cards overseas, and takes them back when they come back to Singapore. She say's its to allow them to spend overseas, but at the same time, in case of emergencies, they can use it for transportation etc

I will not give them any. If they want, they can hide spare cash in their bags when they go overseas in case of emergencies. This way, they will be more cautious about where they put their belongings and take care of them better.

I applied my debit card by myself at 16 lol. I applied my student credit card by myself at 21 lol. If i had kids, i would teach them how to use it properly, the consequence of not paying credit card bills and ask them apply themselves when they reached the age. I have no idea why a 14 years old kid will need a credit card overseas when they should have adults accompanying them.
