When it says consumer prices have gone down, doesnā€™t mean every single thing in Singapore have decreased in price. Itā€™s like a survey. Letā€™s say someone was to ask 10 different people how much they spend last year and this year. On average everyoneā€™s spending went down. This doesnā€™t mean itā€™s correct for all individually. Some may have went down, some may have went up. Itā€™s just that the amount that went down is more than that when up.

Iā€™ll try to make it in simple English as possible.

According to article, thereā€™s inflation in food, communications and vehicle costs. It makes sense because even tho got covid we still need eat, use internet, etc.

Retail goods like footwear and clothing got deflation. Again, makes sense because people trying to save money, and maybe donā€™t need go out as much. So the shops will try to decrease the prices/give discounts to attract people to buy. (Some profit is better than no profit). This one I never go out to shop recently but like if you go Zalora can see thereā€™s a lot of things on discount.

Again, like I say what may be true for one shop might not be true for another shop.
