Anyone took up a side hustle just so as to splurge? 🤣 i dont really have any amount set aside for leisure spending in my monthly budget, so I'm tempted! Lol.. but got some guilt still...

Edit to update: side hustle is only a short period of ~3 mths, twice a week, ~3hrs each.

Only getting few hundreds.

Won't significantly change my regular saving plan.

Yes, I do side hustle by making a social media.

Yup - took up private tuition and it pays decently

Sound like tutoring may be a good idea (didn't see through the rest of the comments).

There should not be guilt to take up side hustles for spending, as a matter fact, it will serve better as a motivation.

I distribute every dollar that I earn into one of the following :

  • Spend - normal expenditure (33.5%)
  • Save / Investment (54%)
  • Education - studies, courses for improvement (3.5%)
  • Gifts / Donation - gifts for friends & family and donation for causes I support (4.5%)
  • Luxury - holidays, splurges, my toys e.g. new mobile phone & such (4.5%)

I review the percentages every year as my earnings increase and I strive to put more away for my investment portfolio. I started with a min of 1% for both luxury & gifts, but kept the % for the 2 categories the same all the time, because every dollar I spurge on myself, I will spend $1 on my friends/family/donation. This is so I cannot be labelled as "selfish".

Spliting every dollar I receive into these categories motivated me to try to earn more whenever I don't have enough in any categories. E.g. I want to go travel and need $3K but only have $2K left in my budget, I will not sacrifice my investments or take $$ away from my Edu budget. I will try to earn more, which will also increase my budget in the other categories too.

No more guilt for spending however I want, as long as I stay within my budget. No enough budget simply means not enough income. (For me, that is)

Worth it if that means that it still aligns with your financial plans!...
