Anyone feels that investing is a hobby that is lonely and non-disclosable?

Like you can't talk to ur friends about it, cos they might think you're rich (anyone who invests will know this is not true), brush you off or avoid you. worst still, your associates might start sending unsolicited financial offers (again, believing you are rich). Insurance agents might start to put you in their crosshairs. I can't talk to anyone about investments and have to resort to Seedly.

I was once in your situation, not having any friends to talk about investments, only to find myself playing the lonely-game where I reap my rewards alone and sorrow my losses alone as well.

Things changed when I start to introduce investing to my friends from a personal finance standpoint. Often people shy away from investing because they are instantly thrown into the endless horizon of research, finding the best stocks, best markets, best returns, etc.

I talked to some of my buddies, who had no clue about investing but have a fundamental understanding of technology. Roping them into the conversation of personal finance, I start to talk about how investing is a way to grow one's wealth. After all, who doesn't want to achieve financial stability?

The funny thing is, now they are actually more active than I was investing! The best part is, we are able to engage in meaningful conversations about companies that they think, coming from an IT/programming background, will likely succeed in the next few years. That ultimately translates into some really good investments that we made collectively!

I would say, find some close buddies, introduce it to them from a personal finance standpoint, and then talk about investing.

Don't make it sound so pessimistic that people are only around you for the money haha. If that's the case, perhaps you might want to relook at your own situation and social circle.

I truly believe those whom matter in our social circle will both be open and happy to discuss such personal stuff together. We want to see each other grow. Of course more often than not, people don't want to see people do better than them, which is why you might feel like there are some who would brush you off or avoid you.

For me, not everyone is on the same path/same stage in their investment journey. Some prefer trading to investing, even within investing some prefer growth to dividends etc, so of course views will differ, and hence the way we talk about investing to anyone/everyone will differ as well.

Perhaps you can start talking about investing with your friends with an intention of helping them acquire more knowledge or learning from those with more knowledge.

I didn't focus on money with my friends, I focus on the conversation and actually caring about them as a person, and naturally the conversation will steer towards personal finance, investments, career, life etc.
