Besides the spending requirement mentioned by Keith, I find that Aegean used to have the fastest way to *A Gold status, and that it was relatively easy to maintain, but then the award chart just got devalued.

Creding your flight miles to Aegean would normally have a higher multiplier too (Used to get 200% crediting J to them, which accelerated the process, compared to 125% when crediting to KF). So if you fly on *A for business and just want the status, it's an option.

However, I usually find that the enforcement of priority boarding is poorly done (or there are really a lot of *A gold members out there), so it's not as great a perk as it seems. The lounge access is still useful however, as is priority baggage handling.
