You can get those shaker toys for sound. I also watched youtube videos whereby parents let their child play with flour (seems like quite a popular option).

Put some stones/beans in an air tight container and let the baby shake for sound. keep an eye over to make sure no bean/stone falls out. after playing keep the toy away from baby.
