Any ideas on how to propose in a private setting without breaking the bank?

thinking of proposing to my gf towards the end of the year. Was thinking of hotel room with some close friends but seems to cliche. Any better ideas

Congratulations! :)

I think, where you first met, share with the establishment owner, ask for a more private setting / setup (not booking the whole place) but maybe a private room or special corner, ask bff or a few friends to help decorate it up, then depends on both your likings to be quiet with just the 2 of you with bff or crowded with friends and family, then make and do something special with your ring to propose :)
