The purpose of REITS is to provide cashflow. Thus, dividends usually the objective. Only if the scrip is below current price then you can consider buying. The advantage: no commission fee when buying this way.

My REITs are typically for the long term and hence i always do scrip (when the offer price is lower than market of course) even if that means i end up with odd lots - since i won't be looking to cash out in the next 30-40 years anyways. Also, i don't need the cash now which is rather insignificant for my portfolio.
