When it comes to choosing an insurance company, there are a few key things to focus on. After all, insurance policies are often quite similar across different companies. Yes, some may be cheaper, and others slightly more expensive, but is price really the most important factor? In my opinion, it’s the coverage and how well the company honors that coverage when it’s time to make a claim.
I recently went through surgery and had to file a claim with Prudential. Initially, everything went smoothly, but things took a turn when it came to my post-hospitalization claim. Without any plausible explanation, my claim was rejected. I reached out to customer service, but after months of waiting, I received no response. My agent wasn’t helpful either, and at times even made me feel like I was overreacting. It wasn’t until I lodged a complaint with Fidrec—over three months later—that I finally received a prompt response from Prudential.
However, the resolution Prudential offered after my complaint to Fidrec felt unfair. They wanted me to drop the complaint and keep quiet about the matter if I accepted their offer. I decided to reject their proposal and am continuing with my complaint through Fidrec.
This experience taught me a valuable lesson: it’s crucial to research and ask around about the claims experience before choosing an insurer. At the end of the day, insurance is meant to support you during difficult times, not add to your stress.
