You can't compared the two, as they are fundamentally different asset classes.
In the long run, investments have the potential to yield better returns (but you could also lose everything)
Fixed deposits will have a guarantee, but the trade off is that you cannot expect market like returns. That would be unrealistic.
Instead, strive to have a good mix of assets in your portfolio such that you do have a decent return with managable risk.
