Advice for a career switch to ICT sector from aerospace

Hi WSG Volunteer Career Advisors, I'm in my early 30s and am working in the aerospace sector. I have an engineering degree. I'm considering switching to the ICT sector as it has better prospects. I'm interested in the coding and data analysis side of ICT. How can I do a mid-career switch without affecting my pay? I'm earning around $4k and I'm the sole breadwinner for my family of 4. Thanks a lot. Any help is appreciated.

Hi, it is relatively easy to switch to IT as career specially in the software side as there is a lot of demand for SW development and coding skills. Since you are an engineer by education, it would be fairly easy to pick up the skills as you are already familiar with logical and analytical thinking. Remember the most in demand are SW coding jobs on Python, JavaScript, Java, C#, C, C++, PHP, Swift, Go, Ruby. You could use sites like Coursera, Udacity, edX, Pluralsight etc for some of the courses. I suggest you take up some of these courses online in you free time after work or holidays and once you acquire some skills and confidence then you could start to use the WSG career switch (Professional Conversion Programme) https://www.ssg-wsg.gov.sg/programmes-and-initi... to join any of the hiring organisation where you can join as trainee and still get paid (as place-and-train or attach-and-train initiative) and that way you could continue to take home salary as you start learning on the job.
There are programmes by technology providers to train in ICT to join in the Cloud & ICT area.
