Wealth in China

According to HSBC, the number of high-net-worth individuals - those with the equivalent of at least 10 million yuan (S$2.1 million) in investable assets - will likely increase to five million by 2025 from more than two million currently. Meanwhile, China’s middle-class population, which currently stands at about 340 million, will grow by more than 45% to over 500 million by 2025.

With this growing trend, China will see stronger consumer spending, which translates into positive business confidence and capital expenditure. Furthermore, a rising middle class will also increase imports of goods and services and attract foreign companies to invest in China.

Digital Transformation & Cyber Securities

With the COVID-19 pandemic, this has accelerated the adoption of digital transformation across different sectors of the economy. According to a new Mckinsey Global Survey of executives, company executives have mentioned that they have accelerated the digitization of their customer and supply-chain interactions and of their internal operations by three to four years.

With the increase in digital transformation, this will indirectly create a higher demand for cyber securities as these companies will require cyber securities services. According to a report by Grand View Research, the global cyber security market size was valued at USD 167.13 billion in 2020 and is expected to register a CAGR of 10.9% from 2021 to 2028.

Environment, Social & Governance (ESG)

ESG Investing (also known as “socially responsible investing”) refers to investing which prioritises optimal environmental, social, and governance matters.

In recent years, we have seen rising awareness of ESG investing around the world as individual and fund managers are increasingly recognising the interdependencies between social, environmental, and economic issues.

With that in mind, investors will be looking to invest in ESG-related investment products. Furthermore, investors could also potentially achieve a progressively higher returns on investment for ESG funds due to their resilience against conventional market disruptions.

Small & Mid Cap Gems

With majority of investors are looking into blue chips counters and REITs, the Small & Mid-Caps sector have been very much overlooked by investors, where there are many opportunities out there waiting for investors to find out.

On top of that, there are many counters that have outperformed the benchmark in terms of their Year-to-date performance.

Some of these counters include:

  • PropNex Limited (YTD Return: 158.44%)
  • Union Gas Holdings Limited (YTD Return: 122.64%)
  • ISDN Holdings Limited (YTD Return: 95.35%)
  • APAC Realty Limited (YTD Return: 86.36%)
  • HRnetGroup Limited (YTD Return: 44.64%)

Millennials (5G, AI, Remote Work, e-commerce)

With majority of global population comprises of Millennials, this bought about many different changes and adoption across different industries. One of the megatrends that Millennials are adopting would be e-commerce. With just a touch of a button, users could purchase items from online and get it delivered to their doorstep, eliminating the hassle of travelling out just to purchase the items desired.

Coupled with the current pandemic, Millennials are more open towards the idea of hybrid or even remote working environment, rather than purely just desk bound environment. Employers will have to adjust their current working environment arrangements to be more in line with Millennials’ desire.

Asset Management

Asset management is the service of managing a client's money. At its core, that means identifying a client's financial goals and then working to accomplish those goals via portfolio management—buying and managing stocks, bonds and funds.

According to rating agency, Moddy’s, it has revised the outlook for the World’s Asset Management Industry to “stable” from the “negative” outlook in place since March last year – the month when the COVID-19 pandemic crisis sent markets crashing.

One major reason for the positive reversion was the continued growth in private markets' assets such as private equity and debt. Family offices and other wealth management entities have been among the main drivers of this trend.
