Telegram has recently introduced a username auction on Telegram Open Network (TON) blockchain, adding its own touch of Web 3.0. Users are now able to list usernames, including their own, as well as channel links for auction. Users can now outrightly own their handles.

Users can list their handle for up to a week, with a minimum auction value of 10,000 Toncoins for handles that are four-charater long, which is equivalent to around 18,400 USD at the time of writing. Now worth as much as 21,000 USD. The username "nike", one of the top bids, was sold on 18th November 2022 for a hefty 330,000 toncoins, equivalent to around 693,000 USD.
